Why Is It Called The Sunflower
Experiment?
The sunflower is
one of the best analogies for the process of growth that you
will go through in this experiment. Here are some interesting facts about
sunflowers:
-
A
sunflower will grow from seed to full grown flower in about
12 weeks- and likewise you can expect not just small
incremental growth, but breath-taking growth in your own
life as you commit to the process and take the simple
actions you'll be asked to take.
-
If you
were to plant an actual sunflower seed, your part of the
process would be relatively simple, yet still crucial to
the outcome.
You would
need to plant the seed in fertile soil that gets good
sunlight and then to water it and pull some weeds along the
way. The rest
is all done by the miracle of life itself and the actual
HOW it happens is way beyond our current ability to
comprehend. The same
is true with your life. The
actions you take are really just a very small part of the
equation, but however small they are still crucial to the
outcome.
-
A
sunflower is an unusual flower in that the stem and bud of
the flower actually rotate during the day to always face
the sun and return at night to face
eastward.
Once the flower blooms, this rotation stops and all
of the flowers face eastward.
Here's a picture of a field of sunflowers
with the sun setting in the west just to illustrate
this.

Likewise we grow
best by constantly adjusting ourselves to face the sun
of truth and light and once we've fully bloomed, we will
continue to "look to the east" which is symbolic of the
constant renewal of hope with each sunrise and we
become inspiring examples to those around us to be ever
constant in hope and love and focusing our attention on
the positive aspects of every situation and every
person.

The
process of growth in our lives resembles this natural
pattern of initiating from the inner and moving to the
outer in an outward and upward positive spiral based on
repeating daily habits in a regular cycle that far from
being repetitive is expanding. The spiral pattern is
found throughout nature- from DNA stands to sea shells
to sunflowers to galaxies.
-
The bright yellow color of the flower is symbolic
of happiness and brightness- like the sun itself
from which the flower draws it's name.
It's hard to look at a sunflower and not feel
a little brighter.
Likewise, our lives need to bring cheer and
happiness to others- no because we're telling
funny jokes, but because our very presence is
a positive, uplifting presence that their
True Self can feel and is attracted
to.
Why An
Experiment?
-
-
This is not
just reading a book or PDF.
This is not about knowledge, but about applying
knowledge in the spirit of
experimentation.
-
We learn
much more through the process of experimentation
than we can ever learn through the process of
classroom lectures, and memorizing facts and
figures and equations.
Classroom learning has it's proper place, but real
useful learning happens in real life.
-
We may
"know" something to be "true" or "the way things
are"- but there is a large chasm between knowing
something and truly realizing something. Knowledge
can come from books- but realization and
understanding can only come through experimenting
with knowledge and observing specific outcomes in
our lives.
-
When we're
young we all love to experiment with
life.
But something happens as we get older- we tend to
stop experimenting.
We've "learned our lessons" and we start to get set
in our ways.
Our mindsets become rigid and our patterns of
behavior inflexible.
Just like your body can become inflexible and stiff
if not regularly stretched, so your life can become
inflexible and stuck if not regularly
stretched.
The Sunflower Experiment is about putting that
regular "stretching" practice back into your
life.
-
Because
each of us is different and unique- there will not
be two identical outcomes to this
experiment.
The outcome you get from this will be yours alone
to enjoy and you won't really be able to give it to
anyone else because it is yours for having gone
through the process.
Another must go through a similar process for
themselves in order to get their own
realizations.
In general terms, all who commit to this 12 week
process will experience significant growth- but the
form that growth takes will be very different for
each person.
