Experiment
Outline
The Sunflower
Experiment is designed as a 12 week guided experiment.
The experimenter is you and the experiment is taking specific
actions that we'll ask you to take and then observing and
recording the actual cause and effect in your own
life.
This should NOT
be treated as an e-book chapter you read each
week. You will loose out on the bulk of the value if you
do that. Words have a lot of power- but they are
powerless to actually teach us anything lasting. Their
power is to inspire us to action and all real learning can (and
will) only happen through our direct experience
with applying the meaning of the words in our own lives
and noticing what happens.
The outline is
based on the overriding analogy of planting and growing a
garden. The important point is that the principles
involved in planting and growing a garden
and becoming the type of person you want to become and
having the type of life you want to have are really
the very same principles. So that in understanding how a
principle applies to growing a garden, you better
understand how it applies to growing yourself.
To get a flavor
for the major topics we'll be covering in the course of the
experiment, here is a general outline:

UNIT 1
- UNIT 5: The
Gardener
The major focus
of the first 5 units of the experiment is on better
understanding the gardener (you). Plants will grow much better
if planted and nurtured by a gardener who knows what it means
to be a gardener. You are the gardener and before we get into
some of the specifics of the creative process of gardening, we
need to first better understand the gardener.
Unit 1
-
Preparing for the Journey
Within
Overview of The Sunflower Experiment,
Taking a "Baseline" Self Assessment Test and actually
arriving at a number score as your starting
point. At the end of the 12 units you will take
the same Self Assessment Test and get another number
that will give you an idea of how much you've actually
grown over the course of the 12 units.
Unit 2
-
Expanding Your
Understanding Of Who You Really Are- The Gardener Of
Your Life
Learning to see yourself as the gardener of your
life. Understanding the 1% principle.
Understanding who you really are and the "Tip of the
Iceberg" principle. Understanding the "Two
Selves" and the process of developing increased
internal alignment. What self-esteem really
is and how to develop
it.
Unit 3
-
Expanding Your Understanding Of The Creation and
Growth Process
Learning what your role is and isn't when it comes to
creating/growing your garden. Understanding what
"The Secret" really is and means and learning how to
apply it in your life. Reverse engineering your
garden- from effect to cause. How to know what
you are really asking for. Understanding the
difference between creation and construction.
Understanding the difference between right effort and
raw effort and learning the 4 A's of right effort.
Unit 4-
Accepting Personal Responsibility for Your Garden and
Learning How to Learn From
Life
Learning what you are and are not responsible for and
starting to hold yourself responsible for only what you
are actually responsible for and to stop holding
yourself responsible for the many things you aren't
responsible for which you have been holding yourself
responsible for. Understanding the Three types
of business. Learning what your true
job is as a human being regardless of what you do
for a living. Understanding the mathematics
of outcomes. Accepting your power to assign
meaning to everything that happens in your life
and learning how to learn from life the easy way
instead of the hard
way.
Unit 5-
Accepting Your Current Garden with Peace and
Gratitude and Becoming a True
Optimist
Learning what it means to Love What
Is. Learning to see the positive aspects of
where you are currently at. Learning to
be truly grateful for ALL things- not just all
"good" things in your life. What it means to be a
true optimist. Expectations and their role
in your unhappiness. How to express
true gratitude.
UNIT 6 - UNIT 12: The
Gardening Process
The major focus
of the next 7 units is on the actual processes of
gardening your life. These are tried and true principles and
practices that apply equally to growing actual plants as to
growing the type of person and life you want yourself to be
and have.
Unit 6-
Clearing Your Garden of
Weeds
Taking on
the weeds of damaged self-worth, guilt and
grudges. Understanding the difference
between actual self-worth and perceived self-worth
and understanding the impact that your perceived
self-worth has on every aspect of your life.
Understanding the difference between right guilt and
wrong guilt and using right guilt to spring you
forward instead of wrong guilt to hold you
back. Understanding what true repentance is
and actually doing it. Understanding how
grudges get planted and nurtured and how to pull
them out by the roots.
Unit 7-
Choosing What You Want In Your
Garden
A whole
new way of looking at goals and achievement.
Finding, accepting and fulfilling your personal life
callings. Deciding what you really want
and learning how to be guided to your true path
through understanding principles of resistance and
assistance. Learning the important distinction
between being stubborn and being
steadfast.
Unit 8-
Protecting Your Garden From Common Destructive
Pests
Building
a protective wall around your garden. Learning how
to recognize and protect your growing garden
from common pests that will try to destroy your
garden. Choosing and setting your filters
for what you will and will not allow into your
garden. Learning how to kill the pests of
doubt, discouragement and impatience. Learning
to say NO to common distractions by having a more
powerful YES you've committed to.
Unit 9-
Nurturing Your Garden With Daily Watering and
Sunlight
We get into more detail of what it
means to direct your attention on a moment by moment
basis and how what you give your attention to is
what you will grow in your garden. Learning to
use your emotions as your guidance system to how you
are directing your attention. Learning to be
receptive to your guidance system and to re-orient
yourself when you've gone off-course. Learning
to focus your attention on what you want, not the
lack of what you want.
Unit 10-
Patiently Allowing Creation to Happen In It's Own
Way
Learning
the art of allowing and not forcing creation.
Being receptive and responsive to inspiration and
taking inspired actions. Understanding the
difference between inspired action and motivated
action. Tapping your inner-guide for helping
you make important decisions. Learning how to
capture inspiration and guidance and how to stay
focused on the next step instead of getting
overwhelmed by your perception of the total
journey. Attaining the creative state of
relaxed enthusiasm.
Unit 11-
Enjoying and Sharing The
Harvest
Gratefully and humbly enjoying the
harvest. Learning to live more fully in the
present moment by continual training of your
attention. Learning to be more fully
present with people in your life. Sharing the
harvest instead of hoarding it- understanding the
principle of circulation as vital to
life.
Unit 12-
Inspiring Others and Committing to Lifelong
Improvement
Learning how to share what you've
learned in a way that people will accept it and you
instead of reject you or resent you.
Learning what it means to be a consecrated gardener
and committing yourself to lifelong improvement
through the upward spiral of learning and
teaching. A final summary of all the key
principles covered throughout the course.
Finally you re-take the original Self Assessment
Test in Unit 1 and get your "New Baseline"
score. This will give you a quantifiable
"progress" score of your journey so far. It is
NOT your final score- because there is no such
thing- it is just your new baseline- from which you
will continue to grow and develop as you continue to
use all your newly gained (or rather uncovered)
tools.

If any of this
grabs your attention and captures your curiosity- then act on
it right now and enroll in the Sunflower Experiment. You'll be
investing in the most important thing you could ever invest in-
Your Self. This could be your first lesson in learning to
listen to and follow your Inner Guidance. If you are feeling
excited and curious and somehow "guided" to having found this-
DON'T IGNORE THOSE FEELINGS! Doing so is what has and will
continue to keep you from becoming the amazing, deliberately
creative gardener of your life that you really can be.
Resisting Inner Guidance and letting the so called "rational"
mind (which is really the ego) talk you out of what your heart
urges you to do might feel safer, but it leads to
mediocrity.
